Affiliate marketing is an online marketing practice where a business gives a small amount of money to a website it’s affiliated with for each customer they draw to make a transaction on the business’ website as a result of the affiliate marketing.

While a good number of e-tailers fail to see affiliate marketing as a viable marketing practice, affiliates are becoming more prevalent in the online business model. In fact, a great many merchants prefer this marketing method due to the fact that they only pay marketers if they themselves get paid. Further, affiliate marketing can enhance the other more high-profile internet marketing strategies such as search engine optimization, autoresponders and search engine marketing. It can also involve Master Resell Rights

Indeed, affiliate marketing is at its most effective when used strategically alongside the following alternative e-marketing practices: bookmarking, PPC Marketing and social networking. Those websites that employ Web 2.0 methods, such as blogging, user communities and RSS feeds have found success with integrating affiliate marketing practices in these areas as well.

Affiliate marketing networks are quite varied in structure. Most are one-tier and pay affiliates commission based on a hierarchy of partners and sub-partners. Some employ two-tier programs, but this is rare Unlike multi-level-marketing (MLM) or network marketing programs, there are also very few requirements to become an affiliate.

Currently, cost per sale (CPS) is the most favored method. CPS works this way: if a merchant receives a sale as a direct result of a customer clicking on a link at an affiliate’s site, the affiliate marketer is compensated. Older methods including cost per mile are becoming less common for compensating affiliates

Currently a self-regulated marketplace, affiliate marketing is often considered to be run by those on the fringes of online marketing. Those affiliate marketers who do well work as homesteaders much like their predecessors in the “Wild Wild West” which may account for the many failed attempts at creating an industry-wide code of conduct for affiliate marketers.

In conclusion, affiliate marketing is still a great way for anyone who is interested in making money online. Many people have made money in affiliate marketing so I believe that you can also do it.
