UK Affiliate Census / Survey

The “UK Affiliate Census Report” has recently been published by E-consultancy.

The purpose of the survey was to establish a broad overview of the UK affiliate industry:

- Their profile (e.g. who they are and where they live).
- Their lifestyle as affiliates.
- The nature of their affiliate activity / business.
- Their relationship with networks and merchants.
- Their opinions about key issues and market trends.

1,536 UK based affiliates (approximately 4% of total UK affiliate base) took part in the survey, me included!

This is a very interesting survey running to 49 pages. I’m sure it’s the first of its kind, at least for the UK.

A few snippets from the results:

- The overwhelming majority of affiliates are male (83% of respondents).
- Of those who do affiliate marketing as their day job, 25% do at least 10 hours a day on average. One in 10 day-job affiliates puts in more than 13 hours plus a day.
- 10% of day-job affiliates (a total of 34) earned more than £750,000 in the last year from affiliate marketing. Before you ask, no I’m not one of them :-(
- The second biggest sector is “Entertainment and Music”.
- I fit into the most common age bracket!

If you’re interested in Affiliate Marketing, you’ll enjoy reading this. Even if you’re not in the UK, I think you might find the results fascinating.
