AdWords and Affiliates

Well I’m still trying to get my mind around the impact on Affiliates with the recent change made by Google for their AdWords program.

In a nutshell, Google will now only display 1 ads per URL. This is obviously going to make it better for the person searching as they won’t get swamped with the same site being presented by Affiliates. That has to be a good thing.

However, the changed are being rolled out progressively and I’m not sure how to tell when the changes have been made for campaigns that I’m running at the moment. All I know is that I’m getting some strange results at the moment with one of my campaigns. Some days I’m getting hardly any impressions or clicks and other days it goes ballistic. That includes URLs (domains) that are unique for me.

The bottom line is that if you’re an affiliate and want to keep your affiliate links in play you need to build your own site. This clearly takes a lot more work but will pay dividends in the long run.
